Who We Are

Rukungiri Youth Initiative for Skills and Empowerment (RYISE)

The Rukungiri Youth Initiative for Skills and Empowerment (RYISE) is a district-level umbrella organization bringing together all youth leaders and youth-led associations for collective empowerment and sustainable development.

It operates through the youth councils of 9 executive members at all levels (village to district), provided for by the National Youth Council Act of 1993, as amended. These councils culminate into the district youth council of 3 representatives per sub-county/division/town council who represent their respective constituencies and participate in policy formulation.
We coordinate, skill, mentor, and support young people aged 8–35 in all 16 sub-counties of Rukungiri District.

Our Background

Rukungiri District is home to over 376,000 people, mostly rural, with more than 90% engaged in subsistence agriculture.
Youth and women face challenges including unemployment, low skills, limited land ownership, and restricted participation in decision-making.

Although many youth groups exist, they operate in isolation. RYISE was founded to unify them, streamline activities, and enhance their collective influence.

“Together, We RYISE.”
